Advantages and Disadvantages of a JailBroken Ipad?

19 Jan Posted by in Ipad | Comments

Question by masterofwined: Advantages and Disadvantages of a JailBroken Ipad?
It seems very easy to jailbreak an ipad and return it to factory settings afterward.
But, I am concerned… what functionality will i lose with a jail broken ipad? And what large functionality with I gain?
It seems to me if my normal applications all don’t work or are stuck in the stone age versions that came out months or years ago, it might not be worth it.
I couldn’t really care less about my version of itunes unless it prevents me from putting videos or music on my ipad, but i would still like my other apps like ibooks and the internet and everything else to work properly and in it’s most updated form. Is this possible?

The main disadvantage is that Apple Computer Inc. will no longer be able to exercise control over what software you run on it, and therefore, they will no longer honor any obligation they might once have had to fix it for you or, to help you out if it isn’t working right.

The advantage is that apps that do not have to obey Apple’s rules potentially can be a lot more powerful and useful than apps that comply. Apple pretty much forbids any app (except for the ones that THEY write) on the device from running processes in the background, and they pretty much forbid any app from communicating or sharing data with any other app.

I say “potentially” because I don’t own an iPad, haven’t contemplated jailbreaking one, and I don’t know what all is out there that you can run on a jail-broken pad.
