I have revised my rating from a Four Star rating because of durability issues.
After only a few weeks this case has started to fall apart after normal use (by normal use, I mean that I baby the iPad)! The glue that holds the microfiber cover onto the plastic shell started to come loose. At first it looked like little bubbles under the microfiber but now nearly the whole back cover is separated from the shell. This makes me worried that it will slip and cause me to drop the iPad. Suspecting that I may just have a defective product, I searched online and to my surprise there are others with this problem. Amazon doesn’t allow links but it’s easy to find the discussion boards I found.
I will once again revisit this review if I receive a replacement BOOKSTAND case that doesn’t exhibit these same problems. Otherwise, check my reviews to see if I have found decent a folio case for my iPad.
This is the second problem I have had with Macally in purchasing this case. I originally ordered it from the Macally website because it was “In Stock” only to find out a week later that it wasn’t in stock and my order was automatically canceled. It was frustrating at the time but it would have saved me a lot of trouble if I had moved on to another case!
– Previous Four Star Review –
I originally purchased Apple’s cover but was very dissatisfied with it. Unfortunately, there haven’t been many other covers that replace the utilitarian functionality of that case. Then, I spotted the Bookstand case on Macally’s website. The only problem was that it wasn’t in production yet. Well, the wait is finally over and this case is wonderful. The typing angle is better and sharper than the Apple case. The best feature is that it doesn’t cover up any of the screen like the other case does, and if you want to remove it, you can easily snap it out.
The few things I don’t like:
1. The Color – it’s very drab. A darker grey or black for the cover and anything but the hideously dim orange on the latch would be nice.
2. The Texture – better than the apple case but it still attracts dust and debris. I’d rather have something smoother. The glue that holds the fabric is inconsistent.
3. The Back Gap – There is a gap between the back of the iPad and the plastic of the case. This doesn’t cause any problems but you can tell its there when you press on the case.
Despite a few flaws it’s the case I’m sticking with for now.

This is one of those items where you read the reviews and think it can’t be that bad. Well, it’s actually not ‘that’ bad. It does what it’s supposed to do.
However you can’t really see what garbage the materials are until you actually have it in your hands. It’s made out of practically the same materials as a cat toy – felt (actually microfiber) on flimsy cheap plastic – which I guarantee will crack and the spine will break after being open and closed often.
The cover is actually microfiber covered cardboard.
Since I work in manufacturing and deal with Chinese merchandise everyday, this didn’t cost more than $3 to make. So if you’re paying more than $15 for this, then you should feel ripped off every time you handle your iPad.
Fortunately I bought this at Fry’s and I can return it when I get a decent folio.

A flurry of iPad stands and cases have been hastily released following the debut of the iPad. Some are okay others are just disappointing. I don’t like plastic, silicone or leather “framing” my iPad (nor do I like it on my iPhone). By this, I refer to any material overhanging onto the glass screen in order to hold the device in the case. Macally got this BookCase right – there is a plastic back the size of the iPad with small rounded corners that are made to just clip onto the SIDES of the iPad, not wrapped around the face. The plastic is covered with a suede-like material resulting in a nice soft touch. The interior of the case is another nice, soft material. The whole thing is pleasant to touch and hold.
When closed, it’s like a notebook, the case covers the iPad except for the aluminum edges. You can open it and fold the cover back on itself so that it’s flat. The little leathetette flap sticks out but I haven’t found this to be in the way. You can also fold the cover in the middle where it is scored and tuck the flap into it’s matching holder. That way, you have a secure, slanted stand that it is comfortable for typing. Folded that way also allows you to stand it up on edge for displaying slideshows.
I bought the gray version as the black one was not yet available at the time. Since it is fabric (or similar), it looks like it might get dirty over time as the iPad is something that is in very frequent use, but so far, I really, really like this case/stand.

I was really excited to see this case online and ordered it with delight. I was a bit disappointed when i received it. I surprised at how low-quality feel and look of this product.
I think you will be disappointed with the type of material. It is very flimsy and looks like the durability won’t last at all. It also will stain very easy. I don’t recommend this product.

Lasts about 2 weeks before falling apart in the fold. Absolutely no customer service, no response to emails regarding this problem.
Update: Was sent a replacement for the damaged case. Hope this works
