Question by Moodyman: Can the iPad Replace a Laptop?
I’m very stuck between what to do. Between a Sony Vaio laptop or the Apple iPad 2, im not sure which to get. If i had either one, i would basically use it for web-surfing, email, and typing documents. I know the iPad sounds like the perfect choice but it just seems wrong to spend the same amount of money to get an iPad when i can get a laptop. It would have to be the iPad 32 gb and the important accessories like the keyboard dock, smart cover, and having to get an AirPrint printer so that i may print documents off the iPad. Bottom line is it would be around 0-900. But, for around 0, i could get a 17″ Sony Vaio laptop with a high capacity battery, a 500gb hard drive, and all the basic stuff like microsoft word and Norton anti virus. And i don’t need to buy a special wireless printer for it like i have to do with the iPad. Now many would say that i should get the iPad because of the ultra portability and because i would only use it for basic things, however Apple comes out with a new version of their product usually once every year which means that within a few years the iPad 2 would become obsolete. Sorry for how long it was but i really need other people’s opinions.

Laptop allows for easy upgrades in the future, the ipad will not be very useful for anything more then basic browsing and a few games.
If you are looking for some of the benefits of the ipad with some laptop functionality perhaps you should look into a tablet notebook.
As for typing documents, IPAD not fun, I barely can type a simple email on it, why replace a computer/laptop with something the functions less?
What do you think? Answer below!

Laptop. Simply because of the storage and upgradeability of the laptop. The ifad is a toy with limited storage and it has what, maybe 64gb’s of storage at most? Average laptop has like 500gb’s? No comparison.
Tablets, including the iPad (any version) are
ok for READING content on the net.
Less fun for “interacting with content”
and
Utterly useless for creating content.
If you wish to type documents you need a keyboard.
I think of an iPad as a larger version of an iPod touch with an actual useful storage capacity and a screen that can actually be read by someone more than 35years old.
And if someone GAVE me one that’s exactly how I’d use it.
Frankly it’s the ONLY way I’d use it.

The iPad is basically a very expensive toy, albeit done in a very snazzy and hip fashion.
Typing is done using an on-screen keyboard, and is very slow compared to a proper keyboard.
Apple also limit what you can put on it too, you can’t just download and install what you want.
Stick to a normal laptop. Much more versatile, you can control your applications.
Avoid Norton Anti virus though, that will turn a high performance laptop into a poorly performing one. If you just need plain anti virus, the Microsoft Security Essentials is perfectly OK, free too.
you should try dropbox…its a nice sync tool between multiple devices…can view pds, video, mp3, office apps etc etx
