I was wondering if the ipad case will be compatible with the 3g ipod touch?

No because the iPad has a different operating system than the ipod touch 3rd gen, and the iPad’s software system is specificly designed so that you can type on it but whereas the iPod the only place you can type on is in your “notes”.
