Adding this as a comment made on my post pointed out where I could download the files. I was and still am unable to find the link in the book so I will post it here for reference, […]
Now that I have the project files I update the star rating as this is a very good book.
I purchased the Kindle version of this book and was really happy with the contents and the direction is was going to take me in. Being able to have the iPad next to me and easily flipping through the pages is much easier than fumbling around with the book.
In the first chapter the book refers to content files for the demo applications you will be developing. I went to the publishers web site as some of their books have the content as a download, this book did not. I contacted the company via email, received no reply then today I saw that they had added this line to the head of the book description.
“This is the eBook version of the printed book. If the print book includes a CD-ROM, this content is not included within the eBook version.”

This book aggregates all the precious information needed to start developing for the iPad. It is clever in the way it covers all subjects involved in iPad development, including the tools, the basics of Cocoa Touch framework and the MVC model, the Objective-C language, memory management basic rules of thumb, specific iPad UI guidelines and its new UI components, it digs a bit into advanced graphics and media handling and finalizes with a chapter dedicated to debugging and another for application publishing. Being relatively new to iPhone/iPad programming I was very pleased to find in one book all the basic information I had to search in 5 ou 6 iPhone programming books when I started iPad programming, and specially because “Teach Yourself iPad Application Programming” is all focused on iPad. The book if beautifully composed in full color, pleasant to read and with clean and very concise pieces of code to provide the reader with the information needed, not long listings of unnecessary code like we find in other books.
I truly recommend this book to any iPad programming beginners or people with previous iPhone development experience which want to jump fast in the iPad development wagon without having to wast much time digging into a lot of different books trying to extract the basic concepts they are looking for which are specific to the iPad. This book is not for experienced iOS programmers, but is highly recommended for other experienced (like me) or not so experienced programmers in other platforms (either mobile or not) which want to make a fast move in into the iOS world, specially the iPad, although, most of the concepts apply to the iPhone as well.
In conclusion, I highly recommend this book for any programmer wishing to start developing for the iPad.

This is an excellent teach yourself book with step by step directions. This book covers a lot of ground.
I would recommend if you already have experience programming, but are new to the Mac OS environment and want to take a stab at creating ipad apps.
I would also recommend a book on objective-c, but it’s not really required. There are free primers on objective-c online that should give you the basics on the language.
If you came from Windows world like me, there is a steep learning curve, but once you get past that, you will realize the concepts are all the same, only the syntax and way of doing things are different.
If anyone is having trouble finding the sample code, the url is on page 3.

I second the opinion that this is a good book. I am an experienced developer (non iphone) and was looking forward to something that would “break the ice’ on Ipad programming. This book did that. But…(and its a big but)…
The book has numerous spelling errors, typos, and other distractions that make me wonder if anyone actually proof read the thing.
For example…page 289..”Because each of our UI objects requires a popover and popovers take a bit of time to set up, we’re PROVING a sample project called PopoverPlayground…” I think they meant to say “Providing”. There are many, many more examples.
So…if you want a well paced book and don’t mind a few distractions…this may be the ticket.
