Question by AGW: Should I buy an iPad for my wife when she already has a laptop and blackberry?
Hi. My wife says she wants an iPad for her birthday but the reviews I’ve read/heard, portrayed the iPad as being over-rated. In addition, we have two laptops and a blackberry in the house. Would the iPad fill a gap in our household technology or would it be a waste of money?

it would be a waste of money as your laptops and blackberry can perform the same function.
however if your wife has asked for it, you should probably buy it for her. when she buys a new pair of shoes, it is not to ‘fill the gap’ in her shoe collection- as she probably has numerous pairs that do the same job. but she still wants the new ones all the same. the same logic is transferred to wanting the new ipad..

The first generation iPad has quite a few kinks that need to be worked out so you shouldn’t buy one till the 2nd or 3rd generation. If she asked for it, then get it for her and just trade it in to get the next generation iPad at a discounted price. But if your wife told you that’s what she wants and you don’t get it for her, she’ll be really disappointed. So get her what she wants so you can BOTH be happy ! lol Good Luck 🙂
wait till they fix the problems on the iPad then get one for your wife for some other occasion. If I were you get her some accessories for her laptop or Blackberry. Or jewelry. Women love jewelry.
Good luck!
In today’s world need is not important it’s just you wanna keep with the new technology.
iPad is a wonderful device that performs different than PC and smartphone do.
After you get iPad you won’t watch a video on smartphone because iPad is as easy to power on as any smartphone is.Apps like Hulu, Abc Player, Netflix , sites like MSNBC, Fox News, MSNBC,ESPN,Disney,People,Times magazines like Vanity Fair,Forbes,Hollywood weekly,Wired make iPad even more useful.
Who the hell wants to read a book on laptop ?People must be crazy to say that laptop can do everything that an iPad can.
A laptop or smartphone can never compete iPad in ease of use, fast function, book reading or utility like uploading document and photos to server.
In reference to this question, few said iPad has some glitches which is totally baseless. I have been using it day and night since day 1 , I never face any problem at all. Battery life is amazing.

I have an iPad with the 3G option because it allows me to use it while buying food to verify that it is safe for me (since I have celiac disease). If I didn’t have a need for this feature, I would consider the iPad a waste of money because everything else that it does is already done by the computers I already own.
You ask if it will fill a gap in your household technology. Ask ask if the iPad does anything that is not being done by something you already own. And if it does, it is something that you require. If the answer to both of those is yes, then the iPad is not a waste of money for you.
I don’t think you should get the iPad, not yet anyway. The iPad can not be used as a computer, no matter what anybody says.
Up to you:) If your money is enough, just do it.
honestly, i WOULD buy it for her, especially if she likes reading magazines, newspapers or books. the iPad is a GREAT addition to any notebook because it honestly keeps a lot of those things at hand.
to be honest, I’m a college kid, and i wanted the iPad as an E-reader, and as an e-reader its not as great. the book selection sucks, and i kind of wish i had gotten a kindle. BUT. there are MANY other useful tools on it, such as Time Magazine, ABC player (for all my tv shows), and many useful apps for school that could possibly help me in the future, such as a 3D brain, and periodic table of elements. watching movies or tv shows is GREAT on the ipad, but maybe a little expensive.
i wouldnt get your wife the 3G plan though, if she already has a smartphone you probably already pay for internet.
hope that helped?
I would get it for her. If she wants it, then you shouldn’t get it to be practical. Yes, it can do the same stuff that a laptop can do. But you also have the option of having many Apple applications. Also, it is nice for traveling because it is a lot lighter than a laptop, etc. But if she wants it you should get it for her. The iPad is only being “over-rated” by the people who look at it practically, saying it’s just an iPod touch and a laptop combined. But for someone who is into technology and new advancements, the iPad is a wonderful thing to play with. I recently ordered an iPad and I am waiting for it to come in the mail – but I have played with iPads so many times at Best Buy and other stores where they have them on display.
i think the point of iPad is never what it can do but what experience it can bring to you.
it’s funny and absolutely will bring you amazing picture experience. it is a great birthday gift i guess.
