Question by Lynn W: What kind of Amp to get? Help!!?
I want to get my dad an amp for Christmas, however, I have no guitar playing experience and when I try and look up different types of amps, and reviews, all the terms confuse me.

Can anyone recommend a good one, probably for playing at home, and not terribly expensive?

Also, he saw the application amp for the iPad and is considering getting that one… need to convince him out of it help! Thanks

The iPad thing would be okay with headphones but will sound like garbage otherwise. You want to stay away from anything that has a speaker smaller than 10″, 12″ is preferable. The Line 6 Spider IV 30 watt is a good and inexpensive choice for playing at home. It also has built-in effects and models so ne need for buy effects pedals.
